Tasha Harcourt, age 37, works in marketing communications as a qualitative researcher. She has a Ph.D. in Marketing and, after gaining experience with a leading firm, she has formed her own two-person company, Harcourt Research Inc.
Her boutique agency deals with a small coterie of corporate clients and advertising agencies. She often runs consumer focus groups which aim to reveal consumer preferences for confidential new products being readied for the mass market. As a result, she becomes privy to classified industrial secrets and discovers the extent to which nervous corporate executives will go to ensure their products’ success.
Originally of British extract, Tasha – known as “Dr. T” to her colleagues and clients – emigrated to Canada following the emergence of strife in her marriage. This was brought on by her much older husband Dr. Daniel Ovind who was ostracized from his teaching position at Oxford University following discovery of his affair with a student: Tasha. She blames herself for his decline and hopes travelling to a new home will re-inject the wind in his sails. It fails to happen and the couple eventually separate as Daniel sinks into alcoholism.
Dr. T is 5’ 6”, approximately 130 pounds with a slim build, attractive curves, shapely legs, large brown, intelligent eyes, shoulder length blond hair, an aristocratic nose and a lovely smile. Beneath her ultra-confident, professional exterior, she often finds herself lacking self-assurance and full conviction in her ways because of the mistake she made in seducing her professor. She was badly shaken by this transgression and constantly wonders if she is to blame for every misfortune that occurs around her.
Still, Tasha Harcourt is a bright individual who gets her way when her mind is set on it. Yet, one of her favorite pastimes is reading trashy romance novels which she simply can’t put down once engaged. From time to time, she sees Richard Lonsdale, a Detective with the Ontario Provincial Police. But she rebuffs his appeals for a relationship because she is focused on her career and worries she should avoid getting entangled in a demanding romance. Plus, she’s still not distanced herself quite enough from her 12-year dalliance with Daniel.
Dr. T becomes ensnarled in various misadventures resulting from her delving into the background of new product developments. She relies on tactical help from Detective Lonsdale who comes to her authoritative aid when practical help is required while she chases down unusual occurrences. She also benefits from her friendship with Theodore Alexopoulus, a home renovation expert, who acts as a devil’s advocate for her theories. And she is supported by her personal assistant Rhonda, a young Lesbian with a storied past who seeks to build her reputation in market research beyond Tasha’s agency.
